Stopping to smell the roses

Stopping to smell the rose! It's a long sail from Toronto, to Georgetown Bahamas.  It has its ups and its downs, moments of serenity, and times when sheer hell breaks loose.  But today, the 4th day of our journey home, its just a beautiful day to sail and take it all in.  The winds are a steady 17-20 knots, the seas are relatively flat and the boat's doing 6.5 knots, with only a gentle heel.     It's a relatively quiet day out on the water, we're flying along at 7+ knots, and have managed to pass all the boats we've seen.  They were all headed the opposite direction, but that doesn't matter.  We totally walked away from Mark and Min-ju on Blue Bird the other day. Reefing early...

Georgetown Bahamas

After a day of rest and recovery we slowly began exploring our new destination.   We didn't go far on our first venture, deciding to just dinghy ashore, and hang out at Chat and Chill beach, playing volley ball and trading war stories about the journey down with like-minded cruisers from around the world.    Over the course of the day we  managed to get the low-down on various points of interest, like where to get rid of garbage, where to get water, grocery shopping, cliff jumping, and snorkelling,  We learned about the morning NET, and other various activities happening in and around Georgetown. The morning NET, on channel 72, was an open broadcast every morning at 8:00am to the fleet of over 450 boats in Elizabeth Harbour.  The broadcast always began with the weather of the day, then boats coming and going, events, buy and sell, and concluded with help wanted.and other various activities happening in and around Georgetown.   It was...

And then there were two!

And then there were two!   Beck, Owen and Christina left for Canada Saturday morning, leaving Henry and I to ourselves for the first time since he flew back to Canada in January.   As much as we enjoyed sharing our adventures with so many people, we're both looking forward to the next leg of our adventure, Wardrick Wells, Staniel Cay and the Thunderball Grotto, and last but certainly not least Georgetown.   We didn't have to leave the marina until noon, so we made the best of their amenities right up to the last minute, coiling up the water hose around 11:45, making sure we had full tanks before we left.  I also had another hot shower and emptied the garbage bins before casting off.      We decided to move the boat out into Monta...

The gangs all here!

The Gang's all Here!   Shortly after completing my last post the sun started setting at 6pm. Between the additional sunlight hours and the sun's ever increasing height in the sky, we've started breaking even on power.  Just in time, Deb flies in with the new starter in a couple of days, so I might not need to fire up the generator too often in the near future.   Back when the starter failed and I hitchhiked to the shop. The woman that gave me a lift has kept in touch.  She works for a number of car share companies, so I've been funneling her some work, between the people I meet in the anchorage and those I meet through the Facebook Bahamas...
